The First Rule

The Box from Chinatown by Anurag Maurya

The creature didn't look dangerous. It let out a soft, trilling coo that sounded like a cross between a purr and a bird song.Billy reached in and lifted the small, furry Mogwai into the light. It was incredibly soft, with large ears and a gentle expression that instantly made him smile. Then he noticed a folded, yellowed note stuck to the bottom of the empty box. Written in thick, black ink were three strict warnings:Keep it out of the light.Never get it wet. Most importantly, no matter how much it begs, never, ever feed it after midnight.
